Free Subscription Limitations on adding group expenses#51

A

Hi Team,

I’ve been using your wallet app for the past four years and am also a subscriber. When I discovered this app, I was genuinely excited — finally, a strong competitor to Splitwise that promised a great experience. And honestly, your app is impressive at this early stage, even though there are some bugs and occasional UI lags when switching contexts.

My concern is with the way expense tracking is limited for free users. Since the free version only supports a restricted number of expenses per group, it becomes inconvenient for group members. Having to create separate groups once the limit is reached makes the experience less reliable and discourages my friends from joining me on this app.

I kindly request you to reconsider this limitation, as it impacts the usability and adoption of your app among new users. Removing or easing this restriction would make the app far more appealing and help expand your user base.

Thank you for your efforts so far — I truly appreciate the work you’re doing and look forward to seeing the app grow stronger.

Best regards,
ABD

How many expenses I can add in free version?

Hi ABD,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this — and for being part of the Wallet family for four years. It genuinely means a lot, and we’re thrilled you’re enjoying ShareCost so far.

Let me clarify how the free expense limit actually works, because it’s more flexible than it may seem:

  • The limit is 50 expenses per group (not per account), and you can create unlimited groups for free.
  • You don’t need to create separate groups when you hit the limit. If just one member of a group has Premium, the 50-expense limit is removed for everyone in that group — all members get unlimited expenses, automatically.
  • Inviting friends is always free. Your friends never need to pay to join you, split expenses, or settle up.

So in practice, a single Premium member is enough to unlock unlimited tracking for the whole group — the rest of the group keeps using the app completely free. We designed it this way precisely so the limit wouldn’t get in the way of group adoption.

That said, your feedback is exactly the kind we want to hear, and we’re always reviewing how to make the free experience even better. We also hear you on the bugs and the UI lag when switching contexts — those are on our radar and actively being improved.

Thank you again for the thoughtful note and for supporting what we’re building. It’s people like you who help the app grow stronger.

Best regards,
The ShareCost Team

Hi Jan,

From a user’s perspective, the current setup makes it necessary to have a premium member in each group to use the group effectively. This requirement isn’t feasible for every user or every group. The core functionality still depends heavily on premium access, with limited entries available.

I kindly request you to reconsider this limitation, keeping in mind the user experience. Competitor apps do not impose such constraints, and this difference directly or indirectly influences user preference toward them.

Thank you for taking this into account.
